Mary Tyler Moore January 26, 2003 President George W. Bush The White House Washington, D.C. 20500 2/24/03 SEEN THE Dear Mr. President: I know your days are filled with the making of difficult decisions. And I know you take very personally the challenges we face as a nation, and the need to find just means to overcome them. So I hope it brings you some comfort to know that your decision to sign H.R. 5738, the Special Diabetes Program, will have great positive impact on a challenge I take very personally, on behalf of myself and millions of children and adults - finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. I am grateful for your leadership in this, and thank you. I also want to acknowledge the warm responsiveness of your staff and their commitment to working with me and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The day after the Senate passed H.R. 5738, Josh Bolten and Jay Lefkowitz met with us to discuss the importance of the legislation as well as other issues of mutual interest. I sincerely appreciate the time they gave to us in the West Wing and view that meeting as a furtherance of our very positive dialogue with your Administration. Thank you again for signing this important legislation into law. I look forward to continuing to work with you and your Administration as together we march down the road to a cure. God Bless You, Mr. President.
