EXECUTIVE BENJAMIN E. MAYS ED 3316 PAMLICO DRIVE. SOUTHWEST ATLANTA GEORGIA 30311 HL11 PR7-1 July 21, 1978 FA3 The President The White House Washington, D. C. 20500 Dear Mr. President: We understand that you have received a mailgram from Mr. Christopher F. Edley, Executive Director of the United Negro College Fund; Dr. Prezell R. Robinson, President of Saint Augustine's College; Mr. Charles Iyons, President of Fayetteville State University; and Mr. Samuel Myers, Executive Director of N.A.F.E.O. On behalf of the Black colleges, the three of us whose names appear below are writing to support their request and express the hope that you will arrange to see them. As you know, the vast majority of the outstanding Black leaders in high positions in federal government, state government and city government are graduates of these colleges. The same is true with the leadership in business, medicine, law, technology and industry. Not only the Black people would be without leadership, but America is much better off because we have an educated Black citizenry. Please arrange to see them. With kindest regards and best wishes, we are Very respectfully yours, Jamseet Jesse Hill, Jr. President Atlanta Life Insurance Company Martin Luther King, Sr. Pastor Emeritus Ebenezer Baptist Church Benjamin E. Mays President Emeritus Morehouse College
