The President of the United States
The White House
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
H
Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the brilliant achievement
of Apollo XI.
July 22, 1969 will go down in the annals of hisdory as the most signi-
ficant date in this or any era, and as the greatest adventure of all
time.
Our country may well be proud that daring, gallant American men were
first to set foot on extra-terrestrial territory and to claim it for
all mankind.
May Almighty God continue to guide you and all those who made this
historic moon flight possible in your efforts toward a better world
for all.
Your now famous "collect" call to astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin, and
Collins while they were taking their "moon walk" and your wonderful
words of praise and welcome when they returned safely aboard the
U.S.S. Hornet, clearly reflected your progressive attitude and plans
for future space exploration. You spoke the words that all of us
felt in our hearts as we watched both of these spectacular and
glorious events.
With warmest good wishes and kind regards,
Cordially,
SPS/na
