in Critical Packard as gett 350 PARK AVENUE NEW YORK April 2, 1969 My dear Mr. President: CS2A I think it is fair to say that a major factor in your victory at the polls last November was the so-called "credibility gap" associated with the previous administration. Please now refer to the attached report in the New York Times, of Saturday, March 29, 1969. One of this country's great needs today is the restoration of respect for and faith in "the establishment". Therefore, it seems to me, Mr. President, that it is of the utmost importance for our country, and for the preservation of the structure of our government and our society, that you dis- associate yourself completely from persons to whom an end justifies any means. I do not think that the American people will tolerate individuals in govern- ment, at whatever level, who, when it is appropriate that they speak, will not speak truthfully and responsibly.
