JOURN CITIZEN 114 East Main St. Box 179, Delphi, Indiana 46923 March 18, 1972 The President The White House Washington, D.C. 20000 Sir: As the editor of two weekly newspapers in the farm belt of Indiana, I wonder if you have considered that the viewpoint of such a person on your trip to Russia might be of great value to the rural people of this HK-1 great country. This idea first occurred to me one week before you left for your visit to China. It was obvious that such a suggestion then would be far too late. Today it was announced that you will go to Russia on May 22 and I still believe that the idea is sound. Maybe I did not check the list of those persons who accompanied you to China closely enough, but I do not believe the weekly press was represented. As a 47-year-old editor and owner of a Republican news- paper in Delphi and a Democratic newspaper in Flora, both in Carroll County, Indiana, and the current president of the Hoosier State Press Association (the organization of all daily and weekly newspapers in this state), I believe that my 22 years experience in the field could offer a completely new and different outlook on the trip to Russia. The great midwest and the rural area people of the United States should find a "country editor's" ideas refreshing. I would be pleased to make all of my work available free to our association and to anyone else your office might suggest. I am a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
