October 13, 1930. ack 15/14/30 Dear Mr. President: As a member of the committee who extended the invitation for you to visit Kings Mountain and having had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you deliver your address, and to observe the reaction in this State as a result of your visit, I assure you that you have done this section a distinct public service and materially strengthened your position with the people generally. There has been a feeling that this section of the country is ignored by Presidents of our political affiliation and much capital has been made of this fact by the Democratic Press. Our people like to feel that they are an integral part of the Union. Your visit and address helped us wonderfully. When all of the people in this State vote there is very little margin between the two dominant parties. You polled the normal republican strength and a number of the religious and moral leaders of the other party who were determined to do all in their power against putting Tammany Hall and its wet policies in charge of the National Government. These people hade confidence in you, and they still have it. I have heard a number of these leaders, who have voted the democratic ticket all of their lives until they voted for you in 1928, say recently that they were going to do it again in 1932.
