The President
The White House
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. President,
I am belatedly writing you to thank you for
including John and me at the luncheon last month in honor of
Prime Minister FitzGerald and saluting St. Patrick's Day,
and also for the very kind telephone call to wish me a happy
birthday.
While I must confess that I am Irish by marriage
rather than by lineage, this in no way detracted from my
pleasure in being at the White House for the luncheon.
The Prime Minister and you both spoke eloquently
for all who were with you in the East Room when you decried
the sad violence that takes place on the Emerald Island and
pointed out the tragic consequences of furnishing financial
support for those who would engage in such activities.
It is always impossible to respond in kind to your
hospitality. However, your sense of humor is so keen and
your love of Irish stories and your ability to tell them is
so apparent that I thought I would share with you an amusing
Irish story, a copy of which I enclose. I hasten to add,
before you read it, if you ever find time to do so, that the
0' Connor described in the enclosed article is (we hope) no
relation either to your undersigned appointee or her
husband.
Sincerely,
Sandra O'Comar
Sandra D. O'Connor
