Letter from Reverend Diana Goudie to President Bush asking he ensure elections in Nicaragua are respected and to stop all aid to Contras

not VOS. 3rd letter 2220/ 8 Park Street Milan, Michigan 48160 February 6, 1990 President George Bush 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, D.C. skilling Dear President Bush, This is my third letter to you since I returned from my trip to Central America. I wonder if you have actually received any of them. I know it would be somewhat of a miracle if they have been able to get through all the secretaries, but I believe in miracles. But I also understand that you could not possibly read all your mail, so I send my warm regards to who ever is reading this! Today, I am sending you a picture of the volcano that Samoza used as a depository for his enemies. One of the things he would do with some of his opponents would be to have them flown by helicopter to the top of this volcano where they would be "dropped in." One of the "sparks" which set off the Sandanestian Revolution was when a well respected doctor was "dropped in" because he would not sign the death certificates of tortured victims as "natural causes. " There is now a cross at the top of this volcano as a memorial to all those who lost there lives in this violent way. I would like to think that our government did not know these kinds of things about the government we so strongly supported. However, they are known now and I do not want us to repeat mistakes of the past. The elections are coming soon. Please do all in your power to see that the results are respected. Again, I would like to repeat my requests concerning our policy in Nicaragua. 1. We must stop ALL aid to the Contras immediately. 2. We must stop interfering with internal governmental affairs of other countries, including giving money to support one political party. 3. We must respect the outcome of the February 25th election. 4. We must lift the economic embargo immediately. You are in my prayers daily. I realize you have many demands and the pressures of greed and power press in on you continually.
