Dear President Truman:
I see you are to speak in Philedelphia soon. Your health insurance plan is just what my neighbors need[all underlined]. One of them just got a bill from a hospital amounting over $1,000; another paid $800 for an operation;another paid $700 for an operation; a friend had to mortgage his home to pay doctors' bills.
[underline]Doctors' bills arevery COMPULSORY; I notice the A. M. A. likes to use this word. The problem is financial-- bring out this point. Smear talk and cries of "socialism" are no refutation to your plan to help our people.[end underline] I wrote the papers, but they all seem to be on the payroll of the medical monopoly. They all tried to smear social security in the same way.
