Dear Sir,
Treatment of conscientious objectors in this great land of freedom and democracy was shabby enuf during the war, but believe me I was considerably surprised [inserted: "to find"] that many C.O.s are still imprisoned at this time.
One case with which I am personally acquainted is that of Arthur Emery, fully recognized as a sincere conscientious objector, who began a 6 month sentence at Danbury, Conn., on June 10 of this year because he refused to cooperate with a program which, without due process of law, confiscated his wages.
This whole mess stinks to the sky, including the actions of the Roberts Board which met in 1947, apparently for the purpose of whitewashing the matter.
If you want to impress the American people that you are a man of integrity and principle, why don't you review this whole matter and rectify the injustice that has been done to thousands of young men who served time and are still serving time in American prisons and concentration camps.
