CHEVY CHASE
June 17, 249298 1991
Dear President and Mrs Bush:
What an henor it was for me to
Meet you both at the Weintraubs and, most
particularly, for me to sit at the First Lady's
table. you two it is truly amazing how
overwhelmed big deals like meyself become when
in the company of the Pres dent and his wife.
Despite all of the standom currounding celebicties,
and despite our perceived political differences
of opinion, we are all like kids in a candy
store of a function such as last Saturdaris.
And, believe me, / know all of ene, from the
Warrens and the Arnalds, to the Goldies and
Sallys.
/ must say, it took some order of courage
to allow yourselves to be seated with So many
"liberals".
WARNER BROTHERS 4000 WARNER BLVD., BURBANK, CA 91522 (818) 954-2782
Z
As / sat across from Nrs. Bush, / saw
a beautiful lady with warmth and humor
in her eyes, an impressive sense of self;
great poise mixed with some small amount
of mischief And as / watched you, Mr.
President, / contdn't help thinking of my own
Dad and Mom. Even Though / grew up in an
atmosphere of Liberatism and "Demperat"-to-The-
end, / perceived not so many differences in
bearing and general perspective when sharing
that evening with both of you. / know we hardly
Spoke to one another, but / left that occasion
with warm feelings +/ good will. And /
questioned why, year after year when it is
time to "speak out" for one position or candi- -
date after onother, we tend to see so little
of the "person" behind the office, and fall
antomatically into our inherited "niches" politically
There are two overriding things / learned
from saturday evening. Our has to do with
over politice differences: / realized we all
find abortion "dictasteful" and horrifyingly
on the rise, yet we all want to help The
poor and disadvantased americans to have the help
they need from those who have more. We all be-
liver in the right to privacy and a woman's right
to autonomy concerning certain issues in her life.
you are "perceived" as Pro-life, / am "percemen"
ac Pro hoise. yet The line is very this when
deciding how to handle such an emotional issues.
As it is with so many issues, which / wont
get into suffice it to say that Due of Those
things you have taught me is that no matter
how tough the choice 02 how deep the issue, one
has to make a stand bonestly, according to one's
crusciense, and not bow to the whim of the time.
you celso taught we, though in my heart /
suppose I ve always known it, that people are people
no matter what their "stanoling" in life, and
4
that, when all is said an done, and when /
can no longer sell a movie tichet for 54, or
when the year 2010 comes along and Mr. and
Mrs. Bush are watching some new
"kis" President on T.V. named "smith" or "Dia3",
it is that lasting friendship and closeness
that we have with our clindren and grand-cluidren
or our weintranbs, Met will stand the test of
time
These are simple values, but they are
Values, and / felt / should drop you
a line to lef you know how comfatable
/ feel with two such wice and well-meaning
people in the White House, even if / do
get out for the "Dems" in '92, It wouldn't
hurt me a bit to know you were shill
there.
Thanks again for the honor, and God bless -
Best wishes Chich
