Message me R Top Rank, Inc. 450 PARK AVENUE NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10022 212-371-3232 3780 5mc December 29, 1977 President Jimmy Carter The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. President: Muhammad Ali will be celebrating his 36th birthday on Tuesday, January 17, 1978. Top Rank, Inc. is privileged to be the promoter of his next title defense against Olympic Gold Medalist of 1976, Leon Spinks. This bout is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on February 15. At present, Muhammad is training in the Greater Miami area and it is there we plan to hold the birthday party. The champion will train as usual on that day, but we are inviting the leading sportswriters to attend. In fact, we already have received affirmative replies from Red Smith, Dick Young and Jerry Izenberg. A wonderful touch which would certainly make for a memorable day for the Athlete of the Age would be a birthday greeting from you. Ali will be at the Fifth Street Gym, Fifth Street and Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida. Up to and including Friday, January 13, this of- fice would be happy to receive and forward any message from you. We respectfully suggest that contact be made at the gym thereafter. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Rudd Irving Rudd, Director of Publicity
