Dear Miss Sabrin:
On behalf of President Ford, I wish to
thank you for your kind message in support
of our efforts to aid the South Vietnamese.
The United States has had a long tradition
of opening its doors to displaced persons.
Certainly, the President is understanding
of the economic concerns that have been
voiced, but he feels that we are a country
built by persons from all areas of the
world, and we have always been a humanitarian
Nation.
The President is convinced that the vast
majority of Americans share your belief that
these people must be given an opportunity to
live in freedom, and he is heartened to know
of your support.
With kindest regards,
Sincerely,
Ron Nessen
Press Secretary
to the President

Dear President Ford,
I don't often agree with you, but on the Viet Nam Refugee problem,
I support you.
I have long opposed the war, but I think we have a special
obligation to aid these people whose country we dwstroyed. I think
it's ironic that the same people who let congress spend billions of
dollars on defense equipment to ravage Viet Nam won't support a few
billion to help these unfortuante people.
No matter how they left Viet Nam whether under official sanction
or in desparate flight (do people really expect human beings fearing for
their lives to "go through proper channels?) they should be welcomed
here. If Americans are exposed to enough different kinds of cultures
here at home, then perhaps they will learn to respect the ways of life
in
** other (countries and the Viet Nam war won't happen a gain.
Sincerely
any Sabrin
