AIDS December 7, 1993 Action President Bill Clinton The White House Washington, DC Dear President Clinton: I am writing to thank you for your eloquent and moving speech presented on World AIDS Day at Georgetown Medical Center. Unmistakable in your remarks was your commitment to increasing AIDS awareness and, ultimately, to eradicating this raging epidemic. The wealth of activities your Administration participated in throughout this World AIDS Day stand in stark contrast to the absence of a national voice and presence on past World AIDS Days. Moreover, your sensitive handling of the AIDS activist who interrupted you -- allowing and encouraging him to speak -- demonstrated a level of compassion, caring and connectedness to the issue that we have long awaited. In your speech you acknowledged the AIDS-related accomplishments of your Administration thus far -- increased funding for AIDS research and the Ryan White CARE Act, the appointment of a National AIDS Policy Coordinator, and the directive to every federal office to provide its employees with AIDS education -- and they have been significant. You also acknowledged that you can do much more, which until we find a cure, will sadly always be true. 18-5 Again, thank you for your inspiring remarks on World AIDS Day and for your Connecticut Ave NW continued pledge to fighting this epidemic.
